Ingredients

  • Olive Oil 7 tablespoons
  • Baking Tomatoes 1 can
  • Garlic 2 cloves
  • Mild Chili Spice 1 piece
  • Sugar to taste
  • Salt to taste
  • Ground Black Pepper to taste

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1

In a deep skillet, heat the olive oil and sauté the garlic (if you are cooking with pepper, add the pepper as well).

Step 2

Add the tomatoes, salt, black pepper, and a pinch of sugar.

Step 3

Bring to a gentle boil and simmer on low heat for 30 minutes. If the tomatoes in the can are whole, crush them in the skillet with a wooden spoon.

Step 4

Remove the skillet from the heat, add the basil leaves (remember that if you chop the leaves, they will lose some of their aroma; they should be torn by hand) and let it sit for a while to allow the sauce to absorb their aroma.
