Description

For lovers of pork and those who do not prefer beef, it can be substituted with pork or lamb, but traditionally this dish is made from either lamb, veal, or even chicken. Za'atar is a spice blend that is a key component of Turkish cuisine, primarily made from hyssop (a type of thyme). It is widely used in the Middle East. However, if you do not have it, you can simply replace it with thyme, reducing the amount, as za'atar has a milder flavor than thyme.

Ingredients

  • Beef 0 lbs
  • Red Long Chili Peppers 3 pieces
  • Spanish onions 2 heads
  • Olive Oil 5 fl oz
  • Onion 1 head
  • Thyme 1 teaspoon
  • Salt 1 teaspoon
  • Ground Black Pepper to taste
  • Za'atar 2 teaspoons

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1

For the marinade, finely chop the onion (not the sweet one), add za'atar, thyme, salt, and pepper.

Step 2

Use high-quality beef without sinews, cut it into medium-sized pieces, place it in an airtight plastic container, and pour the marinade over it.

Step 3

Leave it in the refrigerator overnight.

Step 4

Prepare the grill.

Step 5

Meanwhile, remove the light veins from the peppers and cut them into large pieces.

Step 6

Slice the onion into rings so that they do not fall apart.

Step 7

Thread the meat onto skewers, alternating with pieces of pepper and onion, and press the meat pieces tightly together.

Step 8

Grill the meat over hot white coals until golden brown.

Step 9

Serve with lavash and a salad of seasonal vegetables.
