Scotch Eggs with Pork Sausage
Main Dishes • Scottish
Description
A popular snack in England and Scotland. You can buy ready-made eggs at the supermarket, but they are easy to make at home. This snack is convenient to take with you on a picnic. You can add any ingredients to the sausage mix according to your taste — sage, sautéed onions, mustard. If you don’t have a special thermometer, you can check the oil temperature by dropping in a cube of white bread. It should brown in about 30 seconds. This snack pairs well with a refreshing white wine that has fruity aromas.
Ingredients
- Chicken Egg 8 pieces
- Wheat Flour 4 spoons
- Pork Mince 0 lbs
- Breadcrumbs 10 oz
- Salt to taste
- Vegetable Oil 5 fl oz
- Ground Black Pepper to taste
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1
Place six eggs in a small pot with cold water, bring to a boil, and cook for eight minutes. Drain and transfer to cold water to cool, then peel.
Step 2
Divide the meat mixture into six portions, and shape each portion into an oval patty about one centimeter thick. Place a boiled egg in the center of each patty and fold the meat mixture over the top to form a ball with the egg inside.
Step 3
Beat the remaining two eggs, then dip the prepared balls into them. Next, coat them in flour seasoned with salt and pepper, and then in breadcrumbs. Place in the refrigerator for ten minutes.
Step 4
In a deep skillet, heat the oil to a temperature of 160°C (320°F). Fry the eggs for five minutes until they are golden brown. Serve the cooled eggs with a green salad and mustard. They can also be served hot.
