Description

Since this dish is from Jewish cuisine, it is originally suggested to use matzo meal. You can substitute it with regular wheat flour. It's best to choose a baking dish that allows the potato mixture to be evenly spread to a thickness of 4–5 centimeters.

Ingredients

  • Potato 5 lbs
  • Onion 4 pieces
  • Chicken Egg 2 pieces
  • Wheat Flour 8 teaspoons
  • Salt 2 spoons
  • Vegetable Oil 5 fl oz
  • Ground Black Pepper to taste

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1

Grate the peeled potatoes using a medium grater. Place them in a bowl, mix with flour, add the beaten egg, and season with salt and pepper. Then add finely chopped onion and 6 tablespoons of vegetable oil.

Step 2

Preheat the oven to 390°F. Pour the remaining 2 tablespoons of oil into the baking dish. Wait for the oil to heat up, then spread the potato mixture evenly in the dish. Drizzle with hot oil on top — this will give the casserole a crispy crust.

Step 3

Bake for 50 minutes until cooked through and golden brown. Serve immediately, sliced into pieces.
