Ingredients
- Salad Potatoes 5 oz
- Herring 5 oz
- Onion 5 oz
- Chocolate eggs 2 pieces
- Wheat Flour 0 oz
- Cream 5 fl oz
- Parsley 0 oz
- Vegetable Oil 2 tablespoons
- Salt to taste
- Ground Black Pepper to taste
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1
Grate the potatoes into thin slices.
Step 2
Add oil, salt, and pepper to the baking dish and layer the grated potatoes.
Step 3
Mix everything together.
Step 4
Slice the onion into thin rings.
Step 5
Slightly salt the herring and cut it into small pieces.
Step 6
Layer the dish with: potatoes, onion rings, herring slices, then repeat with potatoes, onion rings, and herring.
Step 7
For the sauce, beat the two eggs, add flour, season with salt and pepper, and pour in the cream.

Whisk until there are no lumps.
Step 9
Pour the prepared mixture over the layered dish.
Step 10
Place the kalalaatikko in a preheated oven at 200–430°F.

Bake until a golden crust forms.
