Description

There has been a similar confusion with Chinese meatballs as there has been with Swedish ones: they are actually more like our stuffed meatballs. The Chinese flair comes from the sauce made with tomatoes and lemon juice, sweetened with sugar. As a side dish, you can serve steamed vegetables for a nearly diet-friendly meal, or baked potatoes if you’re in the mood for something really hearty.

Ingredients

  • Vegetable Oil 0 fl oz
  • Onion 2 heads
  • Tomato Puree 15 oz
  • Meyer Lemon Juice 2 spoons
  • Brown Sugar 0 oz
  • Chicken Egg 2 pieces
  • Lean Beef 30 oz
  • Long-Grain Rice 0 oz
  • Breadcrumbs 5 oz
  • Salt to taste
  • Ground Black Pepper to taste

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1 Image

Step 1

In a deep skillet, heat the oil and sauté one chopped onion until golden brown. Add tomato sauce, lemon juice, and brown sugar, and season with salt. Bring to a boil, then remove from heat.

Step 2

Place the ground meat in a bowl. In another bowl, mix together the lightly beaten eggs, rice that has been cooked for three minutes, bread crumbs, chopped onion, salt, and pepper with a fork. Then, combine this mixture thoroughly with the meat.

Step 3

Return the sauce to medium heat and bring it to a gentle boil. Shape the minced meat into small meatballs and carefully drop them into the hot sauce. Simmer the meatballs in the moderately boiling sauce for ten to fifteen minutes. At the end, season with salt and pepper to taste and serve hot.
