Description

If you don't have paneer cheese, you can use Adyghe cheese; they are practically indistinguishable. For those who like it spicier, you can add green chili pepper to the tomato puree. For those who prefer a thinner sauce, you can add a little water at the end of cooking. If desired, you can garnish the dish with sesame seeds and chia seeds. The dish is served with rice or flatbread.

Ingredients

  • Paneer Cheese 10 oz
  • Tomatoes 2 pieces
  • Fresh Ginger 0 oz
  • Cumin Seeds 1 teaspoon
  • Bay leaves 2 pieces
  • Ground Cinnamon ½ teaspoon
  • Cloves 2 pieces
  • Ground coriander 1 tablespoon
  • Turmeric ½ teaspoon
  • Paprika 1 teaspoon
  • Salt 1 teaspoon
  • Sugar 1 teaspoon
  • Green Peas 10 oz
  • Sunflower Oil 4 tablespoons

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1

Blanch the tomatoes in boiling water and remove the skin.

Step 2

Blend the tomatoes and ginger into a puree in a blender.

Step 3

Cut the cheese into 2x2 cm cubes and fry over high heat until golden brown. Then place them on a separate plate and let cool.

Step 4

In a skillet, sauté the cumin seeds, cinnamon, cloves, and bay leaves in vegetable oil for about 1 minute.

Step 5

Then add the tomato puree, coriander, turmeric, paprika, and salt. Stir, reduce the heat to medium, and simmer for 5 minutes.

Step 6

Add the green peas, cheese, sugar, and continue to simmer for another 7–8 minutes.

Step 7

You can sprinkle sesame and chia seeds on top. Matar Paneer can be served with rice or flatbreads.
