Lazy Cabbage Rolls with Chicken
Main Dishes • World
Description
In terms of ingredients—meat, cabbage, rice—these are definitely cabbage rolls. But they are the kind that don’t need to be wrapped in leaves; instead, they are chopped into the cabbage. That’s why they are called lazy.
Ingredients
- Chicken Broth 0 qt
- Garlic 6 cloves
- Lemongrass 0 oz
- Spanish onions 5 oz
- Bay leaf 2 pieces
- Rutabaga 5 oz
- Ginger 0 oz
- Rice 20 oz
- Green peppercorns 6 pieces
- Chicken fillet 10 oz
- Soy Sauce 2 spoons
- Cilantro 0 oz
- Raw cane sugar 2 spoons
- Vegetable Oil 0 fl oz
- Rice Vinegar for Sushi 0 fl oz
- White Cabbage 0 lbs
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1
Cut the chicken fillet into small pieces.
Step 2
In a deep pot (or better yet, in a large wok or deep skillet), heat vegetable oil over high heat and sauté the chicken fillet until golden brown.
Step 3
As soon as the chicken is browned, add diced turnip, sliced onions, and thinly julienned ginger to the pot (wok, cauldron).
Step 4
Sauté for about five minutes, then add the chopped cabbage to the pot (wok or cauldron).
Step 5
When the cabbage releases its juices, reduce the heat, add finely chopped garlic, bay leaf, pepper, soy sauce, lemon grass, sugar, and vinegar. Mix well and simmer for a couple more minutes, then add the rice, stir again, and cook for another three minutes.
Step 6
Then pour the chicken broth into the pot (wok, cauldron) and simmer the cabbage rolls until they are cooked through. Depending on the type of rice, this will take about fifteen to twenty minutes.
Step 7
When the rice is cooked, stir the contents of the pot (wok or cauldron) with roughly chopped cilantro, remove from heat, and let it sit covered for about five minutes. Serve with sour cream or coconut cream, or enjoy it plain.
