Main Dishes • Indian
Description
Whether it's roti or paratha — this Indian layered flatbread is juicy and rich, just as it should be. Recipe by John Smith, chef at 'The Culinary Experience', a restaurant by 'Double B'.
Ingredients
- Wheat Flour 2 glasses
- Salt ¾ spoons
- Sugar ½ spoons
- Vegetable Oil 2 spoons
- Water 1½ glasses
- Butter 0 oz
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1
In a bowl, combine the sifted flour, salt, sugar, and vegetable oil. Mix well, then crumble the dough with your hands. Add water and knead until you have a smooth and soft dough.
Step 2
Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for 30 minutes. Shape the dough into a ball, then roll it out into a thin layer. Brush the dough with vegetable oil and sprinkle with flour.
Step 3
With your hands, create pleats in the dough resembling crinkled paper. Then stretch the dough as much as possible. Roll the resulting sheet into a log.
Step 4
Slice the roll into portions (about eight to ten) and roll each portion into a circle to form a flatbread.
Step 5
Fry the flatbreads in a hot non-stick skillet without oil. Cook for 5 minutes on each side until golden brown circles appear. After frying, brush with butter.
Step 6
Serve with crab sauce or sour cream.
