French Gratin Potatoes
Main Dishes • French
Description
The potatoes turn out very tender and juicy. They pair well with meat or fish.
Ingredients
- Potato 6 pieces
- Cream 22% 5 oz
- Milk 5 fl oz
- Garlic 5 cloves
- Nutmeg a pinch
- Butter 0 oz
- Salt to taste
- Ground Black Pepper to taste
- Hard Cheese 10 oz
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1
Slice the potatoes into thin rounds. I use a small mandoline for this, but you can also use a food processor. It's very important that the slices are thin, almost transparent, and it's quite difficult to achieve this with a knife.
Step 2
Grease the container with butter.
Step 3
Layer the potatoes, sprinkling each layer lightly with salt.
Step 4
Pour the cream into a saucepan and bring it to a boil. Once boiling, add crushed garlic, salt, pepper, and nutmeg.
Step 5
Cook on low heat for about 5 minutes, stirring constantly.
Step 6
Add the milk to the cream and cook for another 2 minutes.
Step 7
Pour the sauce over the potatoes, then cover the potatoes with foil and place them in the oven at 320°F for 30 minutes.
Step 8
After 30 minutes, once the potatoes are ready, sprinkle them with cheese and return them to the oven for 10 minutes, WITHOUT COVERING WITH FOIL.
