Description

For cooking rice, it's better to use a pot with thick walls to prevent sticking. Do not stir the rice while it is boiling!

Ingredients

  • Boiled White Round Rice 2 cups
  • Onion 2 pieces
  • Cheese Spread 0 oz
  • Sausages 6 pieces
  • Egg white 5 pieces
  • Dill 4 stems

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1

Rinse the round rice at least 5 times, then boil it. The ratio is one cup of rice to 2 cups of water (some say the water should be 2–2.5 cm above the rice). Add salt and spices if desired, then place it on the heat. Boil on high heat for the first 5 minutes, covered. Then, continue for another 5 minutes on medium heat. Bring to readiness on low heat, with a total cooking time of about 20–25 minutes. Basically, wait until all the water evaporates. If the rice is not cooked by this time, make 4–5 holes down to the bottom of the pot with a knife and pour in 3–4 tablespoons of boiling water, then cook for another 10 minutes. Once ready, let the rice cool.

Step 2

Chop 2 large onions into cubes and sauté until translucent. You can use regular yellow onions; I used red onions for added flavor.

Step 3

While the onion is sautéing, break 4–5 eggs, separating the yolks from the whites. Whip the egg whites until fluffy, then gently mix them with the cooled rice. This will give the dish the necessary fluffiness. You can chop and add dill to the rice, mixing everything together.

Step 4

Mix the yolks with the sautéed onions. Cut the sausages in half lengthwise.

Step 5

In a greased baking dish, layer the rice first. Then add the mixture of onions and yolks. Next, arrange the halved sausages on top. Finally, add the remaining rice. You can spread sour cream or mayonnaise on top. Sprinkle grated cheese for a delicious crust.

Step 6

Bake in a preheated oven for about 35 minutes.
