Description
A simple classic of Soviet cuisine, fish in marinade. Here is the most basic version — with cod and tomato paste instead of tomatoes.
Ingredients
- Cod fillet 20 oz
- Carrot 15 oz
- Onion 15 oz
- Wheat Flour 5 oz
- Vegetable Oil 5 fl oz
- Bay leaf 2 pieces
- Green peppercorns 7 pieces
- Passata Tomato Sauce 5 oz
- Water 15 fl oz
- 9% Vinegar 0 fl oz
- Sugar 0 oz
- Clove 3 pieces
- Salt to taste
- Ground Black Pepper to taste
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1
Season the fish with salt and pepper.
Step 2
Coat the fish in flour.
Step 3
In a frying pan, heat vegetable oil and fry the fish over high heat for 1 minute on each side until golden brown.
Step 4
Place the fish in a clean dish.
Step 5
In the same skillet, add some oil and sauté the onions, sliced into half rings, until they are soft.
Step 6
Add grated carrots.
Step 7
Season with salt and pepper, and simmer until the carrots are tender. Transfer the sautéed vegetables to a clean dish.
Step 8
Return the fish to the skillet, adding vegetable oil, and cover it with the vegetable marinade.
Step 9
Mix water with tomato paste, vinegar, and sugar.
Step 10
Pour in the fish and vegetables. Add whole peppercorns, cloves, and bay leaves, then cover with a lid.
Step 11
Simmer for 15–20 minutes over low heat.
