Description

Chicken in Chinese Sweet and Sour Sauce

Ingredients

  • Chicken fillet 0 lbs
  • Corn Starch 4½ tablespoons
  • Wheat Flour ¼ cup
  • Baking Powder 1 teaspoon
  • Salt 1½ teaspoons
  • Non-alcoholic sparkling wine ½ cup
  • Chicken Egg 1 piece
  • Egg white 1 piece
  • Vegetable Oil 10 fl oz
  • Grated Ginger Root 1 teaspoon
  • Honey 3 tablespoons
  • Minced garlic 3 teaspoons
  • Rice Vinegar for Sushi 1 teaspoon
  • Toasted Sesame 2 tablespoons

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1

In a large bowl, mix all the ingredients for the batter. Add the pieces of fillet to the batter, stir (the pieces should be fully coated) and let sit for 30 minutes.

Step 2

Heat the vegetable oil in a pan. Fry the battered pieces until cooked (about 2 minutes).

Step 3

Place on a paper towel to absorb excess oil (don't overdo it to prevent the juices from escaping).

Step 4

Prepare the sauce. All ingredients should be prepped and placed next to the stove. Heat sesame oil in a pan, add garlic and ginger, and sauté for about 30 seconds. Add honey, salt, vinegar, and water, and stir. Pour in the cornstarch dissolved in water and cook for about 2 minutes, stirring.

Step 5

Add the chicken to the prepared sauce, stir or drizzle the strained sauce over the pieces through a sieve. Sprinkle with sesame seeds.

Step 6

Serve with white rice or glass noodles.
