Chawal (White Rice)
Ingredients
- Long-Grain Rice 10 oz
- Water 30 fl oz
- Ghee 2 tablespoons
- Salt 1½ teaspoons
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1
Rinse the rice and soak it for 15 minutes, then drain it in a colander or sieve, or, without rinsing, sauté it in ghee in a 2-liter pot.
Step 2
When the grains become transparent after absorbing the oil, pour in hot water.
Step 3
Stir to break up any clumps, add salt, bring to a boil, and cover tightly with a lid.
Step 4
Reduce the heat to the minimum and cook for 15–20 minutes (depending on the type of rice) until the rice has absorbed all the water and is soft and fluffy.
