Braised Sauerkraut with Wine
Ingredients
- Sauerkraut 20 oz
- Dry White Wine 5 fl oz
- Water 5 fl oz
- Onion 1 head
- Dried Juniper Berries 1 teaspoon
- Caraway Seeds 1 teaspoon
- Bay leaves 2 pieces
- Sugar 1½ tablespoons
- Vegetable Oil 3 tablespoons
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1
In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil. Add the sliced onion. Sauté until soft.
Step 2
As soon as the onion starts to brown, add the sauerkraut, bay leaves, juniper berries, and caraway seeds.
Step 3
Pour in the wine, stir, and simmer over medium heat until the liquid evaporates. Once the wine has completely evaporated, add the sugar and water. Stir and cover. Simmer for 8–10 minutes until ready.
Step 4
Remove from heat, stir, and serve.
