Beef Stewed in Guinness Beer
Main Dishes • European
Description
Instead of Guinness beer, you can use a strong porter, and sugar will not be needed.
Ingredients
- Beef 30 oz
- Wheat Flour 0 oz
- Onion 2 pieces
- Guinness Beer 20 fl oz
- Garlic 2 cloves
- Orange zest 1 piece
- Butter 0 oz
- Vegetable Oil 3 tablespoons
- Bay leaf 1 piece
- Salt 1 teaspoon
- Ground Black Pepper a pinch
- Ground Nutmeg ½ g
- Brown Sugar 1 teaspoon
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1
Cut the meat into cubes about 2.5 cm in size, then coat it in a mixture of flour, salt, pepper, and nutmeg.
Step 2
Heat the butter and vegetable oil in a saucepan and sauté the meat for 2–3 minutes until browned. Then place it on a plate. In the same saucepan, add the sliced onions and crushed garlic cloves and sauté for 5 minutes, stirring. Add the sugar and cook for another minute until it turns into caramel.
Step 3
Return the meat to the saucepan and pour in the beer. We will need both the zest and juice from the orange. Add the juice along with half of the zest and the bay leaf. Bring to a boil. Cover the saucepan with a lid and reduce the heat to low for 1.5–2 hours, stirring occasionally. If the liquid in the saucepan becomes too thick, you can add a little water.
Step 4
When the meat is tender, add salt and pepper to taste, sprinkle with the remaining zest, and serve.
