Skillet Pizza
Pasta and Pizza • Italian
Description
Experienced pizzaiolos might laugh at this recipe, but for now, this is the most reliable way to enjoy homemade pizza without the hassle of making dough. Essentially, the only thing that resembles pizza here is the shape. The dough is yeast-based and has a consistency similar to pancake batter. Naturally, you can experiment with toppings, but we suggest a foolproof option: tomato sauce, salami, mozzarella, and basil.
Ingredients
- Water 5 fl oz
- Dry yeast 0 oz
- Sugar 1 tablespoon
- Salt ½ spoons
- Wheat Flour 5 oz
- Olive Oil 1 tablespoon
- Semolina 1 tablespoon
- Pizza Flour 5 fl oz
- Pizza Mozzarella Cheese 0 oz
- Spicy salami 0 oz
- Fresh basil leaves to taste
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1
Whisk together the yeast, sugar, and warm water, and let it sit for 5 minutes.
Step 2
Add salt and flour, and knead the dough. It should be somewhat runny, similar to pancake batter. Finally, add olive oil and mix well. Cover with plastic wrap and place in a warm, draft-free area for 40 minutes.
Step 3
Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Pour in the prepared batter and cook for 10–15 minutes, covered. The top of the batter should be slightly set, while the bottom should be lightly golden.
Step 4
Sprinkle the dough with semolina and flip it over. Spread pizza sauce on the browned crust, sprinkle with grated mozzarella, and top with thinly sliced sausage. Reduce the heat, cover the skillet with a lid, and cook for 15–20 minutes.
Step 5
Transfer the finished pizza to a cutting board and garnish with basil leaves.
