Rustic Beef Pastry Appetizer

Ingredients

  • Beef 20 oz
  • Onion 1 head
  • Garlic 2 cloves
  • Campbell's Beef Broth 10 fl oz
  • Passata Tomato Sauce 3 tablespoons
  • Dry White Wine 3 tablespoons
  • Bay leaf 1 piece
  • Ground Caraway ¾ teaspoon
  • Salt ½ teaspoon
  • Ground Black Pepper ½ teaspoon
  • Puff Pastry 20 oz
  • Corn Starch 1½ teaspoons
  • Water 2 teaspoons
  • Chopped Sage Leaves 2 tablespoons

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 390°F. Cut the meat into 3 pieces. In a pot, combine the meat, finely chopped onion, minced garlic, broth, tomato paste, wine, bay leaf, caraway, salt, and pepper. Bring to a boil, reduce the heat, cover, and simmer for 1 hour and 45 minutes to 1 hour and 30 minutes until tender. Transfer the meat to a plate and shred into small pieces with 2 forks.

Step 2

Meanwhile, place the pastry on a floured surface. Roll it out and cut into many 8x8 cm squares. Grease muffin tins and place the pastry squares at the bottom of the molds. Bake at 390°F for 10-12 minutes until golden brown. Cool and remove from the molds.

Step 3

In a small pot, bring 240 ml of the meat broth to a boil. Mix the cornstarch and water and pour it into the broth. Cook for 2 minutes until the sauce thickens. Add the shredded meat and mix well. Spoon 1 tablespoon of the meat mixture into each pastry mold and sprinkle with parsley. Serve immediately.
