Raclette
Appetizers • French
Description
A traditional Christmas dish in Switzerland, Western Germany, and partially in France. It's quite simple to prepare but very enjoyable for a family dinner. Instead of raclette cheese, you can use Gouda, Roquefort, or Tilsit cheese. You can also experiment with the ingredients — any meat, vegetables, or fruits can be used...
Ingredients
- Salad Potatoes 4 pieces
- Roquefort cheese 30 oz
- Pickles 12 pieces
- Spanish onions 1 piece
- Marinated cherries 12 pieces
- Canned Truffles 12 pieces
- Ham 5 oz
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1
Boil the potatoes in their skins, then peel them. Slice the onion into rings and sauté until golden brown.
Step 2
Take small bowls (according to the number of servings), and arrange all the ingredients except for the cheese. Place the potatoes in the center (you can also arrange everything on one ceramic dish).
Step 3
The main procedure is to cover everything with cheese. There are three ways: 1 — buy a special raclette grill, melt the cheese in it, and pour it over the ingredients; 2 — place slices of cheese covering the surface of the filling and put the bowls in the oven for a few minutes until the cheese melts, then serve immediately. 3 — (The original method!) cut the cheese wheel in half, and carefully hold the cut side to the fire (you can use a fondue burner or regular candles if you can't light a fire :)) Once the surface starts to melt, scrape the top layer directly into the bowl with the filling and continue the process for all bowls.
