Pork Rolls with Chinese Sauce

Ingredients

  • Garlic 1 clove
  • Vegetable Oil 15 fl oz
  • Grated Ginger Root 1 teaspoon
  • Pork Mince 5 oz
  • Frozen vegetables 'Hawaiian mix' 0 oz
  • Sesame Oil 1½ tablespoons
  • Soy Sauce 2 teaspoons
  • Spring roll wrappers 10 pieces
  • Whole egg 1 piece
  • Salt to taste
  • Ground Black Pepper to taste
  • Ketchup 1 teaspoon
  • TABASCO® to taste
  • Mild Chili Spice a pinch
  • Ground coriander 1 teaspoon

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1

Heat the deep fryer or fill a deep skillet one-third full with sunflower oil and heat to 375°F. If you don't have a thermometer, you can check the temperature by dropping a piece of bread into the oil. At the right temperature, the bread will brown in about 40 seconds.

Step 2

In a separate skillet, heat a tablespoon of vegetable oil and sauté the minced garlic, grated ginger root, and ground pork. Add the spices. Keep on heat until the pork is browned.

Step 3

Add the vegetable mix, sesame oil, and soy sauce. Continue to sauté, stirring, for 2–3 minutes until the pork is cooked, while ensuring the vegetables remain crisp. Transfer the mixture to a baking sheet and spread it out to cool faster.

Step 4

For each portion, roll out the dough. Place a full spoonful of the mixture closer to the short edge of the dough and cover it with the dough from above, tucking the dough from both long sides. Brush with egg yolk and roll it up.

Step 5

Fry the rolls in oil for 1–2 minutes until they have a crispy brown crust, then place them on a paper towel.

Step 6

Prepare the Chinese sauce: mix sesame oil, ketchup, TABASCO, soy sauce, chili, and coriander.

Step 7

Pour the sauce into small bowls and place them on serving plates, arranging the rolls nearby.
