  • Spanish onions 2 heads
  • Olive Oil 1 tablespoon
  • Salt to taste
  • Ground Black Pepper to taste
  • Cream (40%) 10 fl oz
  • Chopped Sage Leaves 1 tablespoon
  • Dry White Wine 0 fl oz
  • Gruyère cheese 0 fl oz

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1

Peel 2 large onions and slice them into thin rings. Place on a baking sheet. Drizzle with olive oil, season with salt and pepper, and sprinkle with thyme.

Step 2

Preheat the oven to 375°F (375 degrees Fahrenheit). Bake the onions for 15 minutes.

Step 3

Meanwhile, in a saucepan, heat the cream with the wine, but do not bring to a boil.

Step 4

Transfer the onions to a baking dish and pour the cream and wine mixture over them. Cover with foil and bake for 35 minutes.

Step 5

Increase the oven temperature to 445°F (450 degrees Fahrenheit).

Step 6

Remove the foil and sprinkle grated cheese on top. Bake for an additional 5 minutes until golden brown.
