Oatmeal with Spiced Apple Jam
Ingredients
- Hercules Oats 0 oz
- Demerara Sugar 4 tablespoons
- Cinnamon 1 piece
- Ground Nutmeg a pinch
- Brandy 1 tablespoon
- Walnuts 1 tablespoon
- Clove 1 piece
- Light Raisins, Seedless 1 tablespoon
- Milk 10 fl oz
- Grated Ginger Root ¼ teaspoon
- Green Apples 1 piece
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1
Peel the apple, remove the seeds, and cut it into large pieces. Place the raisins, walnuts, and chopped apples in a heatproof saucepan. Add 3 tablespoons of brown sugar, the cinnamon stick, nutmeg, clove, 1 tablespoon of brandy, and 2 tablespoons of water. Set the saucepan over medium heat and simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. By the end of cooking, all the liquid should evaporate, and the syrup should thicken. Once done, remove from heat.
Step 2
In another saucepan, combine the milk, 2 tablespoons of sugar, ground ginger, and the cinnamon stick from the prepared jam. Place the saucepan over medium heat and heat until boiling. Add the Hercules oats and cook for about 5 minutes until thickened, stirring. Remove from heat. Serve the oatmeal in bowls, topped with the stewed apple filling. Serve immediately.
