Ingredients

  • Milk 20 fl oz
  • Ground Oats 5 oz
  • Salt a pinch
  • Unsweetened cherry juice ⅓ cup
  • Marinated cherries 5 oz
  • Cinnamon 1 piece
  • Ground Nutmeg a pinch
  • Unsalted peanuts, shelled 0 oz
  • Sugar 5 oz

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1

For the sauce, combine cherry juice, halved and pitted sweet cherries, unsalted pistachios, 80 ml of sugar, a cinnamon stick, and a pinch of ground nutmeg in a saucepan. Cook the sauce over medium heat, stirring, until the cherries release most of their juice and the syrup thickens, about 10–12 minutes. Remove from heat and discard the cinnamon stick. Let cool to room temperature. Transfer to a jar until ready to use.

Step 2

For the oatmeal, pour the milk into a pot and place it over medium heat. Add a pinch of salt and 30 ml of sugar. Bring the milk to a boil and stir in the oats. Cook, stirring, for about 5–7 minutes until the oatmeal thickens.

Step 3

Serve the oatmeal with the dark berry-pistachio sauce.
