Description

Margherita Pizza with Homemade Tomato Sauce

Ingredients

  • Wheat Flour 2 cups
  • Sugar 1 teaspoon
  • Dry yeast 1 teaspoon
  • Salt to taste
  • Olive Oil 4 tablespoons
  • Tomatoes 4 pieces
  • Garlic 2 cloves
  • Ground Black Pepper to taste
  • Melted Cheese 5 oz
  • Basil to taste
  • Water 5 fl oz

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1

To prepare the yeast dough, combine the yeast, sugar, and warm water. Let it sit for 15 minutes. Then add 0.5 teaspoons of salt and 1 cup of flour. Mix well with a wooden spoon, add 2 tablespoons of olive oil and the remaining 1 cup of flour. Knead the soft dough. Place it in a warm place for 1 hour.

Step 2

To prepare the tomato sauce, make a cross-shaped incision on the tomatoes and let them sit in boiling water for 1–2 minutes. Then peel the tomatoes and grate them (or pass them through a meat grinder). Next, take the garlic and chop it. Heat olive oil in a pan, add the grated tomatoes. Simmer on low heat until thickened, approximately 30 minutes. Then add the garlic, pepper, and salt (if the sauce is too sour, you can add 1 teaspoon of sugar). Remove the sauce from heat and let it cool. Meanwhile, grate the cheese and wash the basil leaves.

Step 3

Prepare the pizza for the oven. Divide the dough into two parts (depending on the size of your pizza pan; I made two pizzas, one large and one small). Roll it out, then sprinkle the pan with flour and place the rolled-out dough on it (the thickness of the dough can be adjusted according to your preference). Spread the tomato sauce over the dough (if making two crusts, use half of the sauce) and place it in a preheated oven at 480°F for 5–7 minutes. Then sprinkle with cheese and return for another 2 minutes. Garnish the finished pizza with basil.
