Italian Artichoke and Olive Appetizer

Ingredients

  • Olive Oil 3 tablespoons
  • Spanish onions 2 heads
  • Brown Sugar 1 teaspoon
  • Ground Caraway 1 tablespoon
  • Balsamic Vinegar 1 tablespoon
  • Puff Pastry 10 oz
  • Canned White Asparagus 5 oz
  • Pitted olives 16 pieces

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1

Heat 2 tablespoons of oil over low heat in a skillet. Add the sliced onion and cook, stirring, for 15 minutes until soft. Add the vinegar and brown sugar and cook for another 15 minutes until light brown. Remove from heat, add the chopped caraway, and let cool.

Step 2

Preheat the oven to 390°F (about 400 degrees Fahrenheit) and place a greased baking sheet to heat. Cut out 4 circles from the pastry, each 10 cm in diameter, and place the onion on them, leaving a 1.5 cm edge.

Step 3

Place the pastry on the hot baking sheet and bake in the oven for 12-15 minutes until the pastry is golden brown.

Step 4

Top the onion with the sliced artichokes and olives. Drizzle with olive oil and garnish with sprigs of caraway.
