Calzone with Mozzarella and Cherry Tomatoes
Pasta and Pizza • European
Description
Calzone is a delicious closed Italian pizza. Generally, the dough for calzone is yeast-based pastry dough, but for the sake of saving time, it can be easily replaced with puff pastry. The taste does not suffer at all. It should be noted that the filling for calzone can be absolutely anything. It all depends on your taste and preference. You can use any tomatoes, but make sure they are not too juicy, so the dough bakes faster and the juice does not leak out.
Ingredients
- Puff Pastry 4 pieces
- Mascarpone Cheese Unagrande 5 oz
- Marinated cherries 5 pieces
- Dried Rosemary to taste
- Olive Oil ½ teaspoon
- Ground Black Pepper to taste
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1
Wash the cherry tomatoes, dry them, and cut them into pieces. Cut the mozzarella cheese into small pieces. Mix in a deep bowl with oregano and freshly ground black pepper. Add salt to taste if necessary.
Step 2
Roll out 4 sheets of previously thawed puff pastry to a thickness of 5 mm, and cut out circles for the calzone, removing any excess dough.
Step 3
Place the filling on one half of the dough circle, and seal the edges like you would for turnovers. Do the same with the remaining calzone bases.
Step 4
Optionally, brush the dough with olive oil. Place on parchment paper.
Step 5
Bake in a preheated oven at 430°F until the dough is golden brown.
Step 6
Serve slightly cooled.
