Braised red cabbage with apples and bacon
Ingredients
- Bacon 2 pieces
- Onion 1 head
- Red Currant 1 head
- Green Apples 1 piece
- Apple Cider Vinegar 3 tablespoons
- Coarse Salt to taste
- Ground Black Pepper to taste
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1
Cut the bacon into thin strips. Cut the small head of cabbage in half lengthwise and shred it thinly. Peel and core the apple, then shred it thinly.
Step 2
In a well-heated skillet, fry the bacon until crispy for about 10 minutes. Add the sliced onion and sauté until soft for about 5 minutes.
Step 3
Add the cabbage, apples, vinegar, and 1/4 cup of water. Cook, stirring, for 5 minutes until the cabbage is slightly tender. Season with salt and pepper.
Step 4
Cover with a lid and cook, stirring occasionally, on low heat for 45 minutes to 1 hour until the cabbage is tender, adding a little water if necessary.
