Baked Sweet Onions with Balsamic Vinegar and Oregano
Ingredients
- Spanish onions 4 heads
- Olive Oil to taste
- Salt to taste
- Balsamic Vinegar to taste
- Ground Black Pepper to taste
- Fresh basil leaves 2 tablespoons
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 375°F.
Step 2
Peel the onions and cut them in half crosswise. The height of the halves should be about 4 cm.
Step 3
Pour 1-2 tablespoons of olive oil into the bottom of a large ovenproof dish and spread it evenly.
Step 4
Place the onion halves cut side up in the dish. Drizzle with 0.25 cup of olive oil and toss to ensure the onions are fully coated in oil. Arrange them cut side up again.
Step 5
Generously drizzle with balsamic vinegar, season with salt and pepper. Bake for 30-45 minutes until tender and golden brown. During cooking, you can baste with the oil from the dish. Let cool to room temperature, sprinkle with chopped oregano leaves, and serve.
