Ingredients

  • Water 15 fl oz
  • Sugar 2 tablespoons
  • Dry yeast 1½ teaspoons
  • Salt 1½ teaspoons
  • Vegetable Oil 0 fl oz
  • Wheat Flour 5 cups

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1

In a bowl, dissolve the sugar and yeast in the water and stir. The water should be warm but not hot. Cover and let it sit for about 5–10 minutes until bubbles appear.

Step 2

Then add the salt and oil. Mix and start kneading, adding flour one cup at a time. Knead the dough until it no longer sticks to your hands (do not add extra flour). Form the dough into a ball. Grease the bowl with vegetable oil and 'roll' the dough in it to coat with oil. Cover with a towel and leave in a warm place until it doubles in size.

Step 3

Next, punch down the dough, knead it for about 2 minutes, shape it into a loaf or place it in a baking pan. After 30 minutes, when the dough has risen in the pans, place it in a preheated oven at 355°F (350 degrees Fahrenheit) and bake for 30 minutes.

Step 4

Remove the finished bread from the pan immediately and cool on a wire rack.
