Waffle Cake
Baking and Desserts • Soviet
Description
As soon as someone mentions 'waffle cake' at the table, even the quietest of guests get sentimental, their tongues loosen, and memories come flooding back of a tightly packed chocolate brick with chocolate or cream filling, wrapped in a cardboard box. This 'grandma's' recipe hails from the days when trees were tall and waffle cakes were among the most accessible treats in the Soviet festive sweet lineup. You can prepare it in half an hour without even approaching the oven: store-bought waffle layers are used, and the cream is whipped from butter and sweetened condensed milk. The whole creation looks festive with picturesque chocolate drips and tempts with its creamy side. Sure, it's packed with calories, but the memories it brings are enough for a whole evening.
Ingredients
- Wafer cakes 8 pieces
- Butter 10 oz
- Sweetened Condensed Milk with Coffee 20 oz
- Chocolate 0 oz
- Fresh Berries to taste
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1
Lightly beat the softened butter with a mixer.
Step 2
Gradually add the condensed milk while continuing to whip. The mixture should become a smooth cream.
Step 3
Spread cream on the waffles and assemble the cake.
Step 4
Spread cream on the top waffle layer as well.
Step 5
Leave the wafer cake at room temperature for 1–2 hours, then refrigerate it for another 2–3 hours. During this time, the layers will absorb the cream, making the cake softer.
Step 6
Melt the chocolate in a double boiler. Decorate the finished wafer cake with chocolate and berries.
