Description
Traditional American apple pie
Ingredients
- Wheat Flour 10 oz
- Granny Smith apples 8 pieces
- Butter 5 oz
- Meyer Lemon Juice ½ teaspoon
- Corn Starch 1 tablespoon
- Sugar 1⅕ cups
- Cinnamon to taste
- Salt to taste
- Water ¼ cup
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1
Cut the room temperature butter into small cubes and sift the flour with salt. Add the butter and rub it in until crumbly. Mix the water with the lemon juice and gradually add it to the dry mixture. Knead the dough, form it into a ball, cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate for 20–30 minutes.
Step 2
Wash the apples, peel them, and cut each half into 5 pieces. Drizzle with a little lemon juice, add sugar and cornstarch. Mix thoroughly.
Step 3
Divide the dough in a 2/3 ratio. Roll out the larger portion. Place it in a 22 cm pie dish, pricking the bottom with a fork all over. Add the apples and cover with the remaining rolled-out layer of dough. Crimp the edges and make a hole in the center. Beat an egg lightly and brush it over the top of the pie. Optionally, sprinkle with sugar.
Step 4
Place in a preheated oven at 355°F and bake for 50–60 minutes. The pie should cool before serving, as the filling may leak.
