Description

I sifted through many recipes online before creating something of my own. This is the recipe for the simplest shortbread cookies. I also covered them with icing and colorful sprinkles. Since I am in Germany, the ingredients are German, but I think it won't be hard to find their equivalents in the US. Enjoy your meal!

Ingredients

  • Wheat Flour 2 cups
  • Sugar 2 tablespoons
  • Vanilla salt 5 oz
  • Egg white 2 pieces
  • Butter 5 oz
  • Baking Powder ½ teaspoon
  • Creamy frosting to taste
  • Pastry decorations to taste

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1

Mix 2 medium eggs with sugar, preferably with a mixer (I used different types of sugar, see photo; you can add a bit more sugar than I indicated).

Step 2

In a separate bowl (where you will make the dough), soften the butter (you need 100 grams, which is just under half of a 250-gram block).

Step 3

Add the egg-sugar mixture to the butter.

Step 4

Then sift the flour (I have 2 cups — 300 grams) with the baking powder (half a teaspoon) and slowly incorporate it into the butter-egg-sugar mixture. At first, I mixed the dough with a mixer, then (when I was nearing the end of the second cup of flour) I kneaded it by hand. The dough should be elastic and pleasant to touch. Form a ball from the dough and roll it out to a thickness of 5 mm. (I don't have a rolling pin, so I rolled it out with a tonic water bottle). The thinner the dough sheet, the faster the cookies bake. I prefer them a bit thicker, as they taste better. The dough should come off your hands easily, almost like rolling off. The dough should not stick to the surface you are rolling it on; if it does, add a little more flour.

Step 5

From the rolled-out dough, use cookie cutters or a glass to cut out the future cookies.

Step 6

Place baking paper on a baking sheet and arrange the cookies on it.

Step 7

Preheat the oven to 355°F.

Step 8

Bake for 12–15 minutes. Watch to make sure they don't burn.

Step 9

Remove the cookies and let them cool. In principle, they are already ready to eat.
