Baking sweet rolls early in the morning is a delightful task. The sweet aroma, soft texture, and inviting appearance set the tone for love and good cheer from the start of the day. You can enjoy the rolls in various ways: slice them open and fill them with jam or cheese and ham, add a bit of butter or berries in the center, or simply enjoy them plain with a cup of sweet tea or coffee. Whatever you choose, keep in mind that this recipe requires nearly three hours of dough rising.
Ingredients
- Milk 5 fl oz
- Water 5 fl oz
- Sugar 5 oz
- Vanilla salt 0 oz
- Dry yeast 0 oz
- Wheat Flour 20 oz
- Chicken Egg 1 piece
- Salt 0 oz
- Butter 5 oz
- Whole egg 1 piece
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1
For the starter, mix warm milk and 50 ml of water, dissolve 10 grams of yeast in them, add 200 grams of flour, and stir until smooth.
Step 2
Cover with plastic wrap and let it sit for 2.5 hours.
Step 3
Mix the remaining yeast with 70 ml of warm water.
Step 4
Mix the egg with salt and sugar until it becomes pale in color.
Step 5
Add the water with yeast to the sponge, mix well, then add the egg-sugar mixture and mix again. Gradually add the flour and knead the dough.
Step 6
At the end, incorporate softened butter into the dough. Knead until the dough stops sticking to your hands or the bowl of the mixer. Transfer the dough to a bowl greased with vegetable oil, cover with plastic wrap, and place in a warm spot for one hour.
Step 7
After an hour, knead the dough and place it in a warm spot for another hour.
Step 8
Divide the prepared dough into twelve equal parts, roll them into balls, and place them in a baking tray with about an inch of space between each. Cover again with plastic wrap and let rise in a warm place for 40 minutes.
Step 9
Brush the risen dough balls with an egg yolk mixed with a tablespoon of water, cover with plastic wrap, and place in a warm spot for another 20 minutes.
Step 10
Then place in an oven preheated to 355°F for 20–25 minutes. Allow the finished rolls to cool completely.
