Swedish Onion Bread
Ingredients
- Onion 10 oz
- Milk 5 fl oz
- Wheat Flour 15 oz
- Salt 2 teaspoons
- Sugar 2 teaspoons
- Butter 2 teaspoons
- Dry yeast 0 oz
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1
Peel and chop the onion, then sauté it in vegetable oil until lightly golden. Allow to cool.
Step 2
Sift the flour, make a well in the center, and add the warmed (not exceeding 40°C) milk, salt, sugar, melted butter, and yeast.
Step 3
Mix the ingredients until a homogeneous, non-sticky dough forms, then add the onion and begin kneading the dough (it is important to knead for at least 20 minutes).
Step 4
Leave the dough to rise for 2 hours. After that, punch it down and knead again (for 5 minutes).
Step 5
Shape the dough into a loaf and make decorative cuts on top.
Step 6
Preheat the oven to 200°C. Line a baking sheet or pan with parchment paper. Bake for 40 minutes until golden brown.
Step 7
To give the bread an appetizing glossy finish, beat an egg yolk and brush it over the bread 7 minutes before it is done. After baking, let the bread rest for 7-10 minutes. The bread looks great topped with sesame seeds and herbs.
