Baking and Desserts • Russian
Description
The cookies turn out soft, crumbly, and very hearty. Enjoy your meal!
Ingredients
- Butter 5 oz
- Sour Cream 5 oz
- Sugar ¾ glasses
- Vanilla salt 1 tablespoon
- Chicken Egg 2 pieces
- Wheat Flour 3½ glasses
- Baking Powder 1½ spoons
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1
Sift the flour and combine it with the baking powder. Whisk the eggs with the sugar using a whisk.
Step 2
Add the softened butter and mix well.
Step 3
Add sour cream and mix well once again. Gradually sprinkle the flour mixed with baking powder into the egg-sour cream mixture and knead a soft, not too stiff dough (if desired, you can add raisins, dried apricots, prunes, dried cranberries, cherries, etc. to the dough). The dough will be sticky while kneading. Incorporate enough flour into the dough so that it can be shaped into a ball, dust the dough with flour on all sides, and place it in a plastic bag. Refrigerate for 2–3 hours.
Step 4
Roll out the prepared, chilled dough on a floured surface to a thickness of 8 mm to 1 cm and cut out cookies using a cookie cutter (dipping the cutter in flour) or a shot glass. If you don't have cookie cutters, you can cut the dough into diamonds or squares. Dip the cookies in a mixture of sugar and poppy seeds, or sprinkle with powdered sugar after baking, according to your preference. Arrange the cookies on a dry baking sheet.
Step 5
Bake for 15–20 minutes at 355°F (baking time may vary depending on the thickness of the cookies).
