Simple cabbage soup made with fresh cabbage.
Ingredients
- Meat 20 oz
- Onion 1 piece
- White Cabbage 20 oz
- Roots 5 oz
- Carrot 5 oz
- Vegetable Oil 2 spoons
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1
Put the meat broth to boil. After 1 1/2 to 2 hours of boiling, remove the meat and strain the broth into a soup pot, where you have previously placed sautéed root vegetables and onions; then add the meat back in, add the chopped cabbage, and cook for another 30-40 minutes. 5-10 minutes before the end of cooking, add pepper, bay leaf, and salt to the soup.
Step 2
You can cook shchi with the addition of potatoes and fresh tomatoes. In this case, add the peeled and chopped potatoes to the pot 10–15 minutes after the cabbage has been added, and add the sliced tomatoes at the end of cooking along with the seasonings. Shchi without potatoes can be thickened with toasted flour.
