Rhubarb Pie with Vanilla Sauce
Ingredients
- Butter 5 oz
- Granulated sugar 2 cups
- Egg white 1 piece
- Wheat Flour 2¼ cups
- Baking Powder 1 teaspoon
- Salt ½ teaspoon
- Activated Baking Soda ½ teaspoon
- Buttermilk 10 oz
- Rhubarb 2 pieces
- Vanilla extract 1 teaspoon
- Condensed Milk ½ cup
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1
In a bowl, beat 1 cup of sugar and 2 tablespoons of softened butter together. Then, add the egg. In another bowl, mix 2 cups of flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Combine both mixtures, then stir in the buttermilk and mix well again. Next, add the finely chopped rhubarb and pour into a round baking pan about 22 cm in diameter.
Step 2
In a small bowl, mix ¼ cup of flour, ¼ cup of sugar, and 2 tablespoons of softened butter until crumbly. Sprinkle on top of the pie.
Step 3
Bake the pie in a preheated oven at 355°F for 40–45 minutes until done. Then let it cool.
Step 4
Meanwhile, for the sauce, melt the remaining butter, add the remaining sugar and milk. Bring to a boil and cook, stirring, for 2–3 minutes until thickened. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla.
Step 5
Serve the pie in portions, drizzled with the sauce.
