Ingredients

  • Honey 5 oz
  • Lemon 1 piece
  • Butter 5 oz
  • Sugar 2 tablespoons
  • Milk 1 cup
  • Dry yeast 0 oz
  • Wheat Flour 20 oz
  • Egg white 1 piece
  • Chocolate eggs 2 pieces
  • Powdered Sugar 5 oz
  • Poppy seed paste 10 oz

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1

Prepare the yeast dough. Dissolve the yeast in milk, sift the flour into a mound and make a well in the center. Pour the dissolved yeast into the well, sprinkle with flour, and let it sit in a warm place for 15 minutes.

Step 2

Add the eggs, butter, sugar, lemon zest, and a pinch of salt.

Step 3

Knead the dough. Knead until the dough starts to bubble. Cover with plastic wrap and let rise for 40 minutes.

Step 4

While the dough is rising, prepare the filling. Bring the milk to a boil, then add the poppy seeds.

Step 5

Stir and let it sit for 10 minutes to swell, then strain.

Step 6

Place the swollen poppy seeds in a saucepan, add honey, and cook over low heat for 7 minutes.

Step 7

On a floured surface, roll out the dough into a sheet 0.5 cm thick to the size of the baking tray.

Step 8

Evenly spread the filling over the dough, leaving the edges open, about 2–2.5 cm.

Step 9

Preheat the oven to 220°C. Grease the baking tray with butter.

Step 10

Roll the sheet into two rolls from both long sides towards the center. Transfer to the baking tray and let sit for 20 minutes.

Step 11

Place in the oven and bake for 40 minutes.

Step 12

Sifted powdered sugar is mixed with egg white and lemon juice to make a thick icing.

Step 13

Brush the warm roll with the icing.
