Baking and Desserts • Italian
Description
Pears and pineapples in syrup, baked in puff pastry
Ingredients
- Pears 2 pieces
- Puff Pastry 1 piece
- Water 5 fl oz
- Canned Pineapple Chunks 1 can
- Cinnamon 3 pieces
- Vanilla Pod 3 pieces
- Honey 2 tablespoons
- Butter 1 tablespoon
- Ground clove 10 pieces
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1
Peel the pears.
Step 2
In a pot, pour in the syrup (from the pineapples), water, add cinnamon, vanilla, cloves, and honey, and bring to a boil.
Step 3
Add the pears and pineapples to the syrup and simmer until cooked (cook the pineapples for about 10 minutes to absorb the syrup's flavor; pierce the pear with a knife; if it goes in easily, it is ready).
Step 4
Transfer the pineapples and pears to a strainer to let excess syrup drain.
Step 5
Take the puff pastry and cut it into thin strips. Wrap the pear in a spiral, leaving a small gap between the pastry. Wrap the pineapples in pastry and seal the pastry in the middle.
Step 6
Grease a baking sheet with butter and place the pears and pineapples on it. Bake for about 15 minutes at 170–355°F until golden brown.
Step 7
Remove from the oven and drizzle with the syrup in which the fruits were cooked.
Step 8
Return to the oven for 5 minutes at 390°F.
Step 9
Remove from the oven to cool slightly but keep warm, transfer to a plate, and serve with ice cream.
