Ingredients
- Green Peas 20 oz
- Smoked Ham on the Bone 0 lbs
- Vegetable Oil ¼ cup
- Ham 5 oz
- Chili Flakes ¼ teaspoon
- Carrot 1 piece
- Onion 1 head
- Celery stalk 1 stalk
- Bay leaf 1 piece
- White Cabbage 20 oz
- Apple Cider Vinegar 2 tablespoons
- Salt to taste
- Ground Black Pepper to taste
- Rice 5 cups
- Tomatoes to taste
- Shallot to taste
- Garlic 2 cloves
- Habanero Pepper 1 piece
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1
In a pot, place the peas, smoked ham, and pour in 8 cups of water.
Step 2
Bring to a boil, reduce heat, and cook for about 45 minutes. Drain the water, reserving 1 cup of broth.
Step 3
In a saucepan over high heat, heat the oil. Add the diced ham, minced garlic, jalapeño pepper, roughly chopped carrot, onion, and celery, along with the bay leaf. Cook, stirring, until the vegetables are soft.
Step 4
Add the cooked peas and 1 cup of broth. Shred the cabbage, add it to the pot, and pour in 12 cups of water.
Step 5
Bring to a boil, reduce heat, and simmer for about 1 hour. Add the vinegar.
Step 6
Season with salt and pepper. Serve the pre-cooked rice in bowls and ladle the soup over it.
Step 7
Serve with diced tomatoes and shallots. Enjoy your meal!
