Nuremberg Christmas Gingerbread (Elisenlebkuchen)

Ingredients

  • Chicken Egg 2 pieces
  • Sugar 5 oz
  • Almond 10 oz
  • Candied fruits 5 oz
  • Ground clove ½ spoons
  • Ground Cinnamon ½ spoons
  • Nutmeg a pinch
  • Powdered Sugar 5 oz

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1

Grind half of the almonds into flour and chop the other half with a knife.

Step 2

Whisk the eggs well with the sugar until the sugar is completely dissolved.

Step 3

Mix all the almonds, candied fruits, and spices together, then add to the egg mixture. If the batter is too runny, you can add a little flour.

Step 4

Preheat the oven to 355°F. Line a baking tray with parchment paper. Drop the dough onto the tray using a spoon. Bake for 15–20 minutes.

Step 5

To prepare the glaze, mix powdered sugar with 2–3 tablespoons of water. Coat the warm gingerbread with the glaze and decorate.
