Description

Neapolitan Dessert

Ingredients

  • Wheat Flour 20 oz
  • Chocolate eggs 3 pieces
  • Egg white 3 pieces
  • Butter 0 oz
  • Baking Powder ½ teaspoon
  • Salt a pinch
  • Cognac 1 tablespoon
  • Lemon 1 piece
  • Orange zest 1 piece
  • Sugar 5 oz
  • Honey 10 oz
  • Water 4 tablespoons
  • Candied fruits 5 oz
  • Vegetable Oil 1 cup

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1

Grate the zest from the orange and lemon.

Step 2

In a bowl, mix the eggs, yolks, 2 tablespoons of sugar, a pinch of salt, zest, and cognac.

Step 3

Gradually add the sifted flour. In the first portion of flour, mix in the baking powder.

Step 4

When the dough becomes thick, generously sprinkle flour on the table and place the dough on it.

Step 5

Place very soft pieces of butter on the dough. Knead, adding the remaining flour. The dough should be soft but firm enough to roll into 'logs'.

Step 6

Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and place it in a cool place for 2 hours.

Step 7

After two hours, remove the dough from the wrap, pinch off small pieces, and roll them into thin 'logs' - no more than 0.5 cm wide. Cut the 'logs' into pieces.

Step 8

Pour vegetable oil into a skillet. Add the dough pieces and fry, stirring with a slotted spoon, until golden brown.

Step 9

In another skillet, mix honey, 100 g of sugar, and 4 tablespoons of water. Place on the heat. Cook until the sugar dissolves. Make sure it doesn't boil. Turn off the heat.

Step 10

Cut the candied fruits into cubes.

Step 11

Add the fried balls and candied fruits to the skillet. Mix thoroughly so that everything is well coated with honey.

Step 12

Place a glass in the center of the dish and form a sweet 'hill' around it.

Step 13

Decorate with sweet decorative sprinkles and candied fruits cut into strips.
