Meat Pie
Ingredients
- Wheat Flour 5 oz
- Self-rising flour 0 oz
- Butter 5 oz
- Bacon 2 pieces
- Onion 1 head
- Lean Beef 25 oz
- Campbell's Beef Broth 15 fl oz
- Worcestershire Sauce 2 tablespoons
- Passata Tomato Sauce 5 oz
- English Dry Mustard 1 tablespoon
- Herbes de Provence 2 teaspoons
- Puff Pastry 15 oz
- Egg white 1 piece
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1
Combine all the flour, reserving 2 tablespoons of wheat flour, with the butter in a food processor. Add 1 tablespoon of water and mix until smooth, adding more water if necessary. Form the dough into a ball, wrap it in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for 30 minutes. Roll out the dough on a baking sheet to a size slightly larger than the pan in which your pie will be baked. Transfer to the pan and chill.
Step 2
Heat some vegetable oil in a skillet and sauté the finely chopped bacon and onion for about 5 minutes. Add the ground beef and cook for another 4 minutes. Add 2 tablespoons of flour and stir for 1 minute.
Step 3
Add the broth, paste, sauce, herbs, and mustard, and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer, stirring constantly, for 8 minutes, until most of the liquid has evaporated. Cool and spoon onto the dough in the pan.
Step 4
Preheat the oven to 410°F.
Step 5
Roll out the puff pastry slightly larger than the size of the pan. Brush the edges of the bottom dough with beaten egg and cover with a sheet of puff pastry. Pinch the edges tightly and create a border. Brush the top with beaten egg and bake for 15 minutes, then reduce the temperature to 355°F and bake for another 25 minutes.
