Mandarins in Syrup
Baking and Desserts • Japanese
Description
If you don't have sake on hand, feel free to add vodka or brandy. Just make sure it's the smoothest vodka available, which means you'll need to taste it first.
Ingredients
- Mandarins 15 pieces
- Sake 1 tablespoon
- Sugar 5 oz
- Star anise to taste
- Vanilla Ice Cream 0 lbs
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1
Wash the mandarins, dry them, and make several cuts on each.
Step 2
Pour cold water over the prepared mandarins just enough to cover them, add sake and star anise, bring to a boil, and simmer for 10–15 minutes.
Step 3
Remove the mandarins and let them cool.
Step 4
Add sugar to the mandarin broth and add 80 ml of water, bring to a boil, and simmer for 1–2 minutes. Allow the syrup to cool slightly.
Step 5
Pour the syrup over the mandarins. Serve with creamy ice cream.
