Description
Mackerel Pie
Ingredients
- Milk 1 cup
- Sugar 1¼ tablespoons
- Wheat Flour 1¼ cups
- Dry yeast 1 teaspoon
- Butter 5 oz
- Salt 2 teaspoons
- Canned Mackerel in Oil 3 pieces
- Ground Black Pepper ½ teaspoon
- Whole egg 1 piece
- Onion 1 head
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1
Dissolve 1 tablespoon of sugar and the yeast in warm milk. Sift the flour, add a pinch of salt. Add the butter and rub it into the flour until it resembles fine crumbs. Pour in the dissolved yeast and mix well. Leave the dough in a warm, dark place.
Step 2
Clean the mackerel from skin and bones. Cut the fillet into cubes. Peel and chop the onion, add it to the mackerel. Add 1 teaspoon of salt and ½ teaspoon of sugar, and season with pepper. Mix well and let marinate.
Step 3
Divide the dough into two parts, making one (the bottom part) slightly larger. Roll out the bottom part and place it in a baking dish, leaving an edge. Spread the filling on top. Roll out the top part, cover the pie with it, and seal the edges. Brush the pie with beaten egg yolk for a nice crust. Make several holes with a fork.
Step 4
Place the pie in a preheated oven at 355°F on the middle rack. Bake for 15–20 minutes.
