Description

Maamoul with dates is a delightful pastry that originates from the Middle East. These small, filled cookies are traditionally made with semolina or flour and are often shaped into beautiful molds. The filling, made from sweet dates, gives them a rich flavor, making them a perfect treat for special occasions or a cozy afternoon snack. Enjoy them with a cup of tea or coffee.

Ingredients

  • Butter 5 oz
  • Milk 0 fl oz
  • Wheat Flour 15 oz
  • Orange bitters 0 fl oz
  • Pitted olives 10 oz
  • Powdered Sugar to taste

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1

Finely chop the dates and simmer them over low heat with a small amount of butter, stirring constantly until they turn into a paste.

Step 2

Rub the remaining butter into the sifted flour until it resembles fine crumbs, similar to sand. Add the liqueur and milk, and knead the dough.

Step 3

Divide the dough into twenty pieces and roll each piece into a ball. Also, divide the date paste into twenty portions and roll them into balls as well.

Step 4

Roll each dough ball into a small circle, place a date ball in the center, and fold the dough over to form a ball. Press the ball with a fork to leave imprints.

Step 5

Place the dough balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake in the oven for twenty minutes. When serving, you can dust with powdered sugar.
