Lithuanian Borscht with Smoked Bacon
Ingredients
- Semi-Smoked Sausage 5 oz
- Yellow Beets 2 pieces
- Vinegar essence 3 tablespoons
- Onion 1 head
- Carrot 1 piece
- Pork fat 0 oz
- Salt to taste
- Ground Black Pepper to taste
- Salad Potatoes 3 pieces
- Sour Cream 0 oz
- Herbs 0 oz
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1
Shred the beets and marinate with vinegar and salt for 2 hours.
Step 2
Cook the broth with the smoked pork bacon.
Step 3
Chop the onion and carrot, sauté in pork fat or vegetable oil with salt, pepper, and spices. Add the vegetables to the broth, add sugar, and cook for 10 minutes.
Step 4
Add the marinated beets to the soup. Bring to a boil and cook for 10 minutes.
Step 5
Boil the potatoes and add them whole to the finished borscht.
Step 6
Serve the borscht with sour cream and sprinkle with chopped herbs.
