Kefir Pancakes
Baking and Desserts • Turkish
Description
A classic everyday dish that often appears in homes when there's a need to use up kefir. If you handle the baking soda correctly, which is responsible for the fluffiness of the pancakes, their thickness will be just as good as that of yeast pancakes. They can be enjoyed with jam, honey, or sour cream, or simply on their own, lightly dusted with powdered sugar.
Ingredients
- Kefir ½ l
- Sugar 3 spoons
- Salt 1 tablespoon
- Wheat Flour 2 glasses
- Activated Baking Soda 1 tablespoon
- Vegetable Oil to taste
- Butter to taste
- Sour Cream to taste
- Jam to taste
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1
Mix the kefir with sugar, salt, and baking soda.
Step 2
Gradually fold in the flour until the mixture has the consistency of thick sour cream.
Step 3
Heat the skillet. If it is not non-stick, add some oil: butter, vegetable oil, or a blend of both.
Step 4
Spoon the batter onto a hot skillet and cook for about one and a half minutes, until bubbles form on the surface and the bottom is golden brown.
Step 5
Flip the pancakes and cook them for another minute, until they are golden brown on both sides. Repeat with the remaining batter. Serve the pancakes with sour cream and your favorite jam.
