Italian Yeast Bread
Ingredients
- Wheat Flour 20 oz
- Water 15 fl oz
- Salt to taste
- Dry yeast 0 oz
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1
To prepare the starter, sift 250 g of flour and add 7 g of yeast. Pour in 300 ml of water, mix, and leave in a warm place for 2 to 3 days.
Step 2
To prepare the dough, sift 250 g of flour, add salt and yeast. Pour 250 ml of the starter into warm water and gradually combine with the flour. Knead until you have a soft, elastic dough.
Step 3
Cover with plastic wrap and let it rest for 1 hour.
Step 4
Shape the dough into a loaf and place it on a greased baking sheet. Cover with plastic wrap brushed with olive oil and let it rest for 1 hour.
Step 5
Place a tray with water on the bottom shelf of the oven. Preheat the oven to 430°F.
Step 6
Dust the loaf with flour, make slashes with a sharp knife, and bake the bread for 10 minutes.
Step 7
Reduce the oven temperature to 390°F and bake the bread for another 30 minutes.
