Italian Donuts (Zeppole)
Ingredients
- Sugar 1 tablespoon
- Dry yeast 1 teaspoon
- Wheat Flour 10 oz
- Salt 1 teaspoon
- Vegetable Oil to taste
- Water 10 fl oz
- Powdered Sugar to taste
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1
Dissolve the yeast and sugar in the water.
Step 2
Knead the dough by mixing the flour, salt, and yeast water. Let the dough rise for 1 to 1.5 hours.
Step 3
In a deep pot, heat the oil (about 6 cm deep) almost to boiling (or you can use a deep fryer).
Step 4
Take pieces of dough and drop them into the oil. They will take on a nice, varied shape. Fry for about 2 minutes (until golden brown).
Step 5
In a paper bag or any container, shake the donuts with powdered sugar. It’s best to serve them immediately.
